Man about Town
Bad Hair Day
Mr
Sadler – cousin to Mr Thomas Reeve – was a great dandy, and was most particular
about the state of his dress and coiffure.
Capt. Reeve once went into the hairdresser’s shop in Colchester where he
met our hero undergoing a vast deal of discomfort in order to have his hair
perfectly ironed according to the fashion of the day. Apparently he did not like being caught in
the act, for he immediately rose from his seat, and looking at himself in the
glass thus addressed the hairdresser in attendance: “Rather overdone Mr
Fayres”. (This saying has now become
proverbial – Ed.)
