Joseph Strutt: "Manners"

Hedingham Castle Keep (plate 29 fig 2)
The Essex Society for Archaeology and History has - though not in the Library - a copy of the "Complete View of the Manners, Customs, Arms, Habits & Co of the Inhabitants of England" (Volume 1), by Joseph Strutt. It was published by the Chelmsford engraver and antiquarian in 1774.  It came into the Society's possession as a gift from Phillip G Laver (who died in 1941).  Having read the book and seen the plates, it should definitely be accessioned as it contains many Essex references. This autumn extracts will be published on ESAH160 for all to enjoy.
