The shell of Colchester Castle, emptied of museum artefacts before a major refurbishment, is the next meeting of the Essex Society for Archaeology and History. Members will be taken on an hour-long tour of the Norman building which contains a significant amount of Roman material from the time when the town was a significant Roman settlement.
Members can meet for tea from about noon at Castle Methodist Church adjacent to the Castle. Hollytrees Museum is open to the public but members may have the opportunity to view the Librarian's Office. The Society will also be having another book sale of surplus books, having on offer an entirely different selection to those brought along to the Morant Lecture.
Non Members may also come along to the book sale. Let us know you are coming please to avoid disappointment.
