'Digging For Britain', the first of a series of four, was broadcast on BBC FOUR this evening (3 February 2015). The programme featured archaeological discoveries during 2014 in the east and south-east of England. Williams and Griffin, the department store at the top of the High Street, is going through a substantial re-modelling. The Colchester Archaeological Trust have been on site and discovered the story of a house caught up in the Boudican Revolt of 61AD. Finds included burnt figs, date, grain and peas, and a skeleton of perhaps the poor occupier brought down by the attack. But the most spectacular find is a hoard of jewelry hidden from the invaders. It is known as the Fenwick Treasure.
