Visit to Colchester Castle

Interior of Colchester Castle - showing two building phases.
Last but by no means least, the Essex Society for Archaeology and History was today given a guided tour of the empty shell of Colchester Castle - stripped of its museum artefacts ahead of a major refit.  Over the last month the Castle has been the venue for a Craft Fayre, Lecture, Concert, Beer Festival, a Zombie event and a symposium which has reevaluated and reinterpreted the history of the castle building..

The Castle was built in two distinct phases, with the second being constructed with walls in herring bone fashion.

A short video gives an overall impression of the structure.

A fuller report of the Society's visit will appear on this site in due course.
