High Country History Group

The High Country History Group, covering the small parishes of Greensted, Stanford Rivers, Stapleford Tawney and Theydon Mount has a new blogspot.  The Group meets on most fourth Thursdays in the month at Toot Hill Village Hall.  This year it has changed its meetings to March to November (except August and September) rather than through the winter months.

For a membership of £7.00, or £10.00 for family members, those on our list receive four journals a year containing items of local and countywide historic and social interest and reduced admission to our regular meetings (£1, instead of £3 for visitors).  Do join us. You will be very welcome.

Forthcoming Meetings:
Thu. 27 June: The Great Tide of 1953. Speaker: Anne Brooks
Thu. 25 July: The Mary Rose. Speaker: Maurice Wakeham of the Mary Rose Trust
August & September: No meetings
Thu. 24 Oct: A Student's Guide to Colchester, presented by Andrew Smith
Thu. 28 Nov: The Poor in Essex: How society treated the poor from Queen Elizabeth I to the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834. Speaker: Martyn Lockwood
Members: £1. Visitors: £3.
