Hill Hall and Theydon Mount Church is next Society Visit

Hill Hall, Theydon Mount
The Essex Society for Archaeology and History visit Hill Hall and St Michael's Church, Theydon Mount on Wednesday 14 May 2014.  

Hill Hall is a fine Elizabethan mansion which features some of the earliest external renaissance architectural detail in the country, and two rare outstanding sets of 16th century wall paintings. It is an English Heritage site.

St Michael's Church Theydon Mount is a grade I listed church built by Sir William Smith of Hill Hall on the site of the previous parish church which was struck by lightning in 1611 (completed 1614). The church is famous for the monuments to the Smith Family and contains unusual items of national importance. The visit is led by Anne Padfield.
