University Of Essex Lecture: 'Translating History for Television'. Monday 1 December 2014

The Society has received the following notice of what promises to be an interesting lecture at the University of Essex.

"I thought that you might be interested in the following lecture taking place at the University of Essex on Monday 1 December. This lecture is being given by Professor Pam Cox who will speak about her two recent BBC television series. Further details are below but if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. We would be delighted to see members of The Essex Society for Archaeology and History at the lecture."

Professor Pamela Cox
Translating History for Television
Monday 1 December 2014, 6.00-7.30pm
Lakeside Theatre (Colchester)

Television history works hard to win mass audiences by combining pacey journeys through rich visual locations with the discovery of new artefacts and the telling of emotive stories. Professor Cox draws on her two recent BBC series to explore what is gained as well as lost in translating historical research for TV.

Part of the University’s Professorial Inaugural Lecture Series, a programme of special events throughout the year celebrating excellence in research undertaken by our recently appointed professors. Themes explored in this year’s series include translating history for television; women’s role in peace and conflict; optimisation, the science of getting the best out of our resources; the Afro-Brazilian artform, Capoeira; and literature, home and homecoming.
